'The Bathtub' - Lisa Biggi

Imagination in abundance to lose laziness to bathe

Lisa Biggi's Bathtub is a book with a simple narrative and very well

intentional. Squeeze as much creativity as possible into the simple act of bathing.

Specifically, the bathroom provided by a mother for her child. The objective of

the writer seems to be romanticizing the showers so that the boys and girls

lose the laziness to wash.

Among other elements, it is necessary to take into account the structure in which

based Biggi. A structure based entirely on a parent-child dialogue.

There is, therefore, no narrative. And no page has more than

four sentences. All this favors those who are less accustomed to the

reading can also easily read the book. When I mention the

creativity, I do it because of the diversity of similes that Biggi makes with

elements that make up a bathroom. Compare the bathtub handle to a

fire hose, to the sponge with a crab cave or to the same

bathroom with a car wash.

And the illustrations, made by Paloma Corral, are up to the above. Drawings and text travel in harmony, because in all parts of the book we find a practically blank page that collects the dialogues, followed by a fully illustrated page. This means that the reader is not distracted by the images drawn.

On the contrary: it causes them to read the text first and then they can enjoy and analyze each metaphor calmly. In fact, the illustrations evoke precisely those similes discussed above. And most of them share the same shades of blue to give the book more identity. As a bonus track , on each blank page we find a small and nice drawing of the different utensils that a bathtub usually has (among them, the handle compared to the fire hose).

So, as I mentioned at the beginning, the book tries to remove that childhood rejection of showers and baths. And at the same time, for stimulating the imagination of the children who read it. Two weekends with a very entertaining and fresh medium that make The Bathtub a highly recommended work.
